ROUND 6 THUNDERSPORTS
After a long couple of weeks preparing the car after our incident in Adelaide special thanks must go to Q Trading, Capitalcorp Finance, Mavricks paint, T&D Automotive, Peter Herlihen and Mike Kilpatrack for there support in getting the car ready in time.
We made the trek down to Winton. It was a huge and impressive field that we were up against with 25 entries and 9 of those were Porsche cup cars. My car doesn't compare in anyway to a Porsche Cup Car so we new after previous rounds that consistency over the weekend would pay off, so our aim was to qualify well and stay out of trouble over the 3 races.
There were 2 qualifying sessions though we only did 1 as our tyres were not of the best quality and we new that there were 3 races coming up. Our qualifying time was 1.34 which had us in 14th position in the grid.
Race 1. We only had 1 close call and that was on the start with the radical stalling at the start and I had to take extremely quick action so I didn't run into him at full speed from the line, we made up 3 places and finished in 11 place.
Race 2. Again I had to take quick evasive action with one of the Porsche Cup Cars missing the start and stopping in front of me, once I made it around him we came to the first corner and a future racer and RX7 had come together on cold tyres and brakes I had to run over the ripple strip and onto the dirt before heading back onto the track this only cost me 1 place. I finished in 8th.
Race 3. It was good clean racing for the majority of the race for me, though on the second last lap Paul Whitmarsh in his monster of a 993 turbo Porsche went round me and I thought I would tuck in behind him and get pulled along though he had been having problems with his gear box and missed 2nd gear in doing so I gave him a tap in the back and exchange some paint. I finished in 7th.
My over all position for the weekend was 8th outright. This put me in front of 5 Porsche Cup Cars. After this weekend I should be in 8th on the leader board and 1st in the Porsche challenge.
